Coach Midkiff's Science Class(This is what we have done in class to date and expect to do in the next few days--I update daily depending on how far we get each day)
Mon. 8/22--Introductions to class precedures; coarse description; classroom rules; have lab safety contracts signed for a 100 if returned on Tues.,8/24
Tues. 8/23--seating assined; collect signed rules for a 100; do circle concept map on "lab safety"; take home lab safety contract to be signed (hm.wrk.)
Wed. 8/24--set up notes journals; glue Flinn safety contract into front cover of journal; read pgs. 697-699 text; complete the "Recognizing Laboratory Safety"wsdiscuss chemical safety signs & symbols; complete identifying the cartoon lab violations ws
Thurs. 8/25--check the lab safety ws from yesterday & glue it into journal; from Wed.; discuss lab euipment, safety and location; draw a map of the room and show location of all safety equipment
Fri.8/26-- complete & grade the lab safety test (quiz); discuss observatons and inferences with a notes handout; complete the "Gum Drops Lab"
Mon.29--Metric measurement lab & wk.shts.
Tues. 8/30--read & discuss "introduction to Energy" notes handout--Glue into notes journal; watch 5 minute video on energy transformation; discuss and take notes on the 8 forms of energy; complete the fill-in-the-blank wk.sht.
Wed. 8/31---quiz on quantitative / Qualitative Observations; check energy ws (Tues.hm.wk.); make a forms of energy foldable
Thurs.9/1--energy transformation lab; check quizzes & turn in foldable from Wed. (hm.wk.)
Fri.9/2--quiz on 'Metrics & energy'; turn in energy lab report from Thurs.; video notes on experimental design and scientific method
Mon. 9/6--LABOR DAY
Tues. 9/7--wk.sht. on experimental design; read text pgs. 10-16 (classroom copies)
Wed. 9/8--check the ws from Tues.; lab on experimental design
Thurs. 9/9--Turn in lab report on Wed.'s lab; read pgs. 102-109; define the 'key terms from section 1, ch.3, listed on pg.102
Fri. 9/10--quiz on experimental design; complete the 3-1 ws; vocab.; and sect. review questions
Mon. 9/12--video notes for your journal on motion and Sir Isaac Newton; complete the 'forces' ws h.o.
Tues. 9/13-- check the ws 3-2 (from fri.); discuss 'forces ws from Mon.; complete 'Net forces' ws
Wed. 9/14--test on experimental design & energy transformations; complete the ws 'forces wnd work' handout
Thurs. 9/15---Marble lab---complete lab report h.o.
Fri. 9/16---finish Marble lab from Thurs. & turn in report; complete the 'calibrating speed ws (Due Wed. 9/21)
Mon. 9/19--complete the 'Exploring Laws of Motion' ws (due Wed.9/21)
Tues. 9/20--Video --Discovery "Planet Earth---Pole to Pole"
