Welcome to my home page!
Welcome to the new school year. We have a lot of fun in 6th grade! We also do a lot of learning. We begin the year reading MANIAC MAGEE by Jerry Spinelli. You will just love the book. We read this novel in class and then study literary elements. Jerry Spinelli is a "master" of figurative language in this book! We will also begin our spelling activities soon. This year we will again have a strong emphasis on vocabulary. Parents, please work with your child as much as possible to expand his/her vocabulary.
Several times in class we stop for a "vocabulary moment"
to discuss a word that surfaces during a conversation. We look up the denotation (definition) and write it on the board. We will have an opportunity to "make it our own" at a later time with activities.
